Healing Racism in Anchorage envisions a united Anchorage based on trust, respect, and understanding.

Healing Racism in Anchorage is 501(c)(3) registered non-profit focused on helping people understand the history of racism in the US, how racism manifests itself today, while giving them the tools for interrupting racism in their own lives. We do this mainly through workshops and through bringing an annual speaker to Anchorage to give greater visibility to the topic.
After the success of Tim Wise’s visit in 2010, HRA is pleased to announce world-renowned speaker, filmmaker and anti-bullying activist Brent Scarpo as the headliner of our November 2011 event. Kicking off with Brent’s presentation of his award-winning film Journey to a Hate Free Millennium at 7pm on
Monday November 7 at East High Auditorium (free of charge and open to the public), followed
Tuesday, November 8 with a small workshop from 5:30pm to 9pm.
Brent will speak at a number of local community organizations, schools and businesses, discussing the origins of interpersonal hatred and how individuals can affect change in our community.
Special thanks to HRA’s community partners Wells Fargo, the Anchorage School District and the CIRI Foundation for their assistance in bringing Brent to Anchorage. For more information on Brent’s schedule and additional appearances, please contact us at
If you are interested in participating in a 6-9 week workshop (once a week 3 hours) where racism is the topic, please go to WHAT WE DO.We also adapt some of our material for workshops designed for specific organizations.
